Uploading my first photos to the Photo Directory

Uploading my first five photographs to the WordPress Photo Directory might seem like a small step at first glance, but for me, it marks the beginning of a truly significant and inspiring journey.
As a student participating in the WordPress Credits program, I wanted my contribution to be both authentic and professionally aligned. Since I work as a photographer, joining the Photos Team was the most natural choice. For me, photography is more than just a job—it’s a way to observe the world and share my vision. Bringing this passion into the WordPress ecosystem feels incredibly meaningful.
When my mentor and I first discussed my plan, we set an ambitious goal: uploading around 30 works. I was full of enthusiasm as I prepared a selection of high-quality, versatile images designed to help bloggers and designers worldwide. During the upload process, I learned that the system accepts five photos at a time, which led me to see the process in a new light.
I immediately appreciated the wisdom behind this approach. The Photo Directory relies on volunteer reviewers who carefully examine every image to ensure it meets technical and licensing standards. Focusing on five shots ensures that every single work receives the proper attention while keeping the review queue manageable.
This understanding gave me a fresh perspective: the five-photo limit isn’t a barrier, but a way to protect quality and show respect for the efforts of those who review our work. This is exactly what I value in the WordPress community—thoughtful and sustainable collaboration.
For my first submission, I selected five of my best shots: clean compositions, natural light, and a sense of quiet storytelling. There is a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing these photos might soon appear on someone’s website or in a global project. It’s a new kind of professional contribution—anonymous, global, and rooted in the principles of open source.
Furthermore, this experience has sparked a new ambition: in time, I hope to become a reviewer myself within the Photos Team. My professional background as a photographer would allow me to help maintain the high standards of the directory and support other contributors.
For now, my part of the work is done. The photos have been submitted, and the wait begins. There is something peaceful about this moment—the metadata is filled, the licenses are checked, and the button is pressed. It feels like that quiet pause between the click of the shutter and the appearance of the finished frame.
This is only the beginning of my journey, and I already feel like part of something important. Five photos uploaded. The first step is taken. I look forward to many more frames and contributions ahead!
